Auckland FC has confirmed that Uruguayan striker Guillermo May has departed from the club following a remarkable two-year tenure. During his time with Auckland, May scored 16 goals in 58 appearances and provided six assists, contributing significantly to the team's success. The Black Knights clinched the Premiership in their inaugural season and followed it up by winning the Championship in the 2025-26 season. Despite being sidelined due to injury during the Grand Final, May played a crucial role in the Elimination Final against Melbourne City, scoring a vital goal and successfully converting a penalty in the tense shootout.

Reflecting on his time at Auckland, May expressed his gratitude, stating, "I have loved my time in Auckland. The fans, the city, the people, my teammates, everyone has been so kind and welcoming. I will be sad to go, but goodbyes are part of football." He leaves the club with cherished memories and two trophies, including the Grand Final.

May joined Auckland FC in September 2024 as part of an international trio, which also included midfielders Louis Verstraete and Felipe Gallegos. Head coach Steve Corica praised May's contributions, saying, "He has been a great player for us, a great teammate for the boys, and certainly endeared himself to the fans. Gone, but certainly not forgotten."

As of now, May's next destination remains uncertain. He plans to return to Uruguay to continue his recovery from an ankle injury and spend quality time with his family. Auckland FC will undoubtedly miss his presence on the pitch as they look to build on their recent successes in the league.
